Gifted Students, the 11+ and Entrance Exams |
Private Tuition that Extends Very Able StudentsWe work with very capable students to encourage top performance. Using the latest computer-aided technology and educational learning programmes, we enable children to advance as quickly and as far as they are capable. We have helped many children to get into top fee paying schools, even including Eton. Coaching for Private School Entrance Exams and the 11+Excelr8 Learning provides specialised coaching to prepare children for entrance exams or for the 11+. Coaching begins with National Curriculum Assessments in Maths and English to identify any learning gaps. Also taught are verbal and non-verbal reasoning skills. We then develop an individual programme for each student with the aim of maximising the opportunity to comfortably pass the exam. Further Information:Grammar Schools use 11+ Exams (usually set in November at the school) for selecting children for admission in year 7, the first year of secondary school. Most independent urban day schools (with an age 11 intake or starting point) set their own form of the 11+ (usually in January) prior to the desired entry year. However, most school entry exams at age 11 involve the 4 elements of Maths, English, verbal and non-verbal reasoning. Common Entrance ExamsCommon Entrance Exams for senior independent schools can be set for admission at 11 or 13. These papers are set centrally by the Independent School Exam Board but marking is done by the school. At age 11, Common Entrance is usually limited to Maths, English and Science. The 13+ paper covers the full range of subjects including compulsory English, Maths, Science, History, Geography and RE. There are four optional foreign language papers, and some schools require Latin. Scholarship ExamsThe Scholarship exam is a more challenging version of the Common Entrance Exam, and designed to identify the most able students. Those who pass the scholarship exam receive a fee reduction known as a scholarship. School Entry Exams and AssessmentsMost preparatory schools require children (age 6 or 7) to come to the school to take a written, one-three hour exam (usually in January) prior to the desired entry year. At Excelr8 Learning, we help children to feel confident and at ease with the process as well as mastering the required levels of English and Maths (including verbal and non-verbal reasoning). At Excelr8 Learning, we coach children for all of these exam types.
